Women's Political Leadership Circles
Exert your power. Assert your voice.

About

History

Bobbie Celeste and Janine Moon offered their first Circle in 2018 to eight women running for various Ohio offices including the Ohio Senate and House of Representatives, U.S. Congress, County Commissioner and County Auditor. Of those eight, three won their races. The five who did not were all running in heavily gerrymandered districts with little expectation that they would win. All of them, however, are staying politically active and preparing for their next races. Their thoughts and testimonials to the value of their Circle are noted throughout these pages.

Bobbie and Janine’s partnership was forged over a cup of coffee at Stauf’s, a local coffee shop in Grandview, Ohio. Both believers in progressive values and long time activists in women’s issues, they discussed the 2018 wave of women wanting to make a difference following the 2016 federal election. Over that cup of coffee they combined Bobbie’s political background and Janine’s business experience and Circles were born.

Bobbie Celeste

Bobbie is a psychologist whose passion is progressive politics. Her first campaign activity was leafleting at the polls for Carl Stokes for Mayor when she was in college. Since then she has worked as a volunteer for Democratic Presidential, Gubernatorial, Congressional, State legislature and local races. As the spouse of State Representative Ted Celeste and sister-in-law of Governor Dick Celeste, she knows how campaigning can impact career and family-life. While raising two daughers, Bobbie also returned to school to become a counselor and later a clinical psychologist. She worked with the Ohio Psychological Association consulting and training psychologists on policy, ethics, and advocacy as well as lobbying for access to mental health treatment at the Statehouse and on Capital Hill. Her private practice focuses on helping individuals find the best match for their vocational and volunteer interests.

Recently Bobbie has contributed to the LEAD Ohio Academy for progressive candidates running for the Ohio Legislature and the POWER training programs for women through the Ohio State University Glenn College of Public Affairs. In 2018 she founded the Women’s Political Leadership Circles which she co-directs with Janine Moon.

...really helpful to know that other women were having similar experiences, challenges, and successes—to bond together with others going through similar experiences.
